Basse Mode is, or will be, a real life hard copy magazine. One that you can buy in bookshops, or newsagents, one with beautiful images and thick paper.
Basse Mode is a magazine about what real women wear, feel and believe.
Basse Mode is a magazine built for normal everyday women. We know that the feeling of flicking through a glossy magazine can’t be beaten. However, all the magazines feature the same thing – unwearable looks, unaffordable clothes, and an emphasis on being and looking the same as one another. We want to condense all the brilliance that the fashion blogging world has to offer into something that we can put on the coffee table. That we can show off on the coffee table. A beautiful documentation of what real women wear, what real people think, and things that actually affect our lives. Nothing like this has ever been done before, but we think it could be brilliant.
This is going to be THE place to share you outfit pictures. Essentially we want this group to become an online depositary for all your weird and wonderful outfits – everything from clubbing clothes to black tie, work wear to weekend chic. We will be posting some of the images (just a small selection) in what will be a new section on the blog – a section that will include samples of the sort of content that we are hoping to include in the magazine.
Please join and submit some images – it will be fun!
Next, our call for submissions!
This is the first in what we hope will be an instalment of challenges for you, all of which will be Basse Mode related. The rules are as follows:
Write the article or create the artwork based on the topic
Publish submission on your blog (if you have one)
Send your blog to me here, including your name and location where published (so we can keep track of you on the submission page).
Only original content
Top 3 articles as judged by myself, Emma and Fi will be published in the new content section.
Deadline 2nd April
The first mission is to address what fashion means to you, and why you want a magazine like this.
It doesn’t have to be an article, but it can take the format of anything you would find in a magazine – How-to guides, feature articles, layouts, typography, outfits shots (with explanation). Use your creative brain!
Thanks everyone for being willing to get involved with this. We haven’t done that much this week – I have been putting together a big spreadsheet of all the people who are interested in getting involved, and this seems to have taken up my every waking hour!
The list eventually top 100 people all wanting to contribute, and this is after just 1 week. We have such a diverse collection of skills… from graphic designers to typographers, layout experts to professions at photo shoots, and of course lots and lots of very talented writers and fashionistas. It is slightly overwhelming, and has made us feel like we really could make this happen.
A massive thank you to everyone who has said they want to be involved – and to everyone who has been kind enough to write about us on your blogs. We will be sending out an email this week attempting to up the ante again, encouraging people to share the idea, write about it, and also to join our group on Flickr. You will all be invited to the Flickr group at some point this week – if you want to submit your fashion ideas and outfit shots then simply leave a comment somewhere on this blog and you will be added to the list.
On with a new week – and let’s make this actually happen!
